Following cannabis laws in Spain

In July 2015, the cultivation of cannabis in private places was decriminalized in private property. This huge change in regulation sparked a surge in the opening of cannabis social clubs in Spain. There are over 700 cannabis social clubs in Spain which provide for medical and recreational smokers. The rules of these social clubs are simple; members must be over 21 years old and have valid photo identification. There may be rules of the social club you have to follow, so always be sure to check!

Is Cannabis Legal?

Cannabis in Spain is legal for personal use in private property. If you are outwith the social club or your home, cannabis becomes illegal to possess. Spain is unique in its drug laws; consuming cannabis within your home or privately owned spaces such as the social clubs is legal, and the only circumstance in which it is illegal is consuming cannabis in public or attempting to sell it to others.

Growing your own plants at home is also legal as long as cannabis plants are not visible to the public and intended solely for personal consumption. The allowed number of plants per person in a household is not specified by the Spanish Government.
